Agartala, March 5 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) has taken into custody 19 Bangladeshi nationals and three Indian nationals, including a tout, from various districts in Tripura, as reported by officials on Wednesday.

A BSF spokesperson revealed that the individuals were apprehended in West Tripura, Khowai, North Tripura, and Sepahijala districts due to their unauthorized entry into India.

Currently, both BSF and police officials are questioning the detainees, who are set to be presented in court.

In addition, authorities seized narcotics, rice, and other illegal items valued at Rs 17 lakhs and Bangladesh Taka 63,000 from the detainees.

The spokesperson stated that to combat smuggling and other border offenses along the India-Bangladesh border, the BSF has recently executed 29 coordinated patrols and arranged numerous border meetings with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The BSF is dedicated to maintaining a high level of vigilance at the international border while also contributing to the goal of a “Drug-Free Society”, he added.

Since the unrest in Bangladesh began in July-August, the BSF has increased its vigilance and strengthened its presence along the border.

Last week, the BSF detained 15 Bangladeshi nationals, which included three women and seven children, in Tripura for illegal entry into India.

Meanwhile, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, accompanied by Inspector General of BSF, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, visited various Border Outposts (BOPs) in West Tripura district on Wednesday to assess the border situation.

The Governor also interacted with BSF personnel and discussed various matters, praising the BSF for their high degree of professionalism, the spokesperson stated.
