New Delhi, April 1 (NationPress) Punjabi actress-singer Nimrat Khaira, who is set to appear in Gippy Grewal’s “Akaal”, expressed that her enthusiasm for history has notably increased since she began to delve into it.
“Akaal: The Unconquered,” debuting on April 10, is set against the backdrop of 1840s Punjab. It narrates the story of honor and resilience, focusing on Sardar Akaal Singh and his village as they confront a revenge-driven attack by Jangi Jahan and his troops following Maharaja Ranjeet Singh's passing.
When asked if she has developed a passion for history due to her role in a historical film, Nimrat shared with IANS: “Honestly, I hadn’t engaged much with history before. But as I began to explore it, my interest grew remarkably.”
“In particular, the history of the Sikh Empire, which was ruled by Maharaja Ranjit Singh for 40 years, captivated me. Reading about it instilled a sense of empowerment. Subsequently, I explored figures like Hari Singh Nalwaji, Sham Singh Attariwala, and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. I made an effort to learn about all these remarkable individuals.”
As for Nimrat, she first gained recognition as the winner of Voice of Punjab season 3 and shot to fame with her hit single “Ishq Kacheri”.
Her musical journey began with a duet titled “Rab Karke” alongside Nishawn Bhullar, released in 2015, which received positive feedback from fans. However, she achieved significant popularity with her subsequent tracks “Ishq Kacheri” and “SP De Rank Wargi”, both launched in 2016.
Nimrat continued her successful streak with songs like “Salute Wajde” in 2016. By 2017, she had released numerous hit singles, including “Rohab Rakhdi”, “Dubai Wale Sheikh”, “Suit”, and “Designer”.
She made her cinematic debut in Lahoriye in 2017, starring alongside Amrinder Gill, Sargun Mehta, Yuvraj Hans, Nimrat Khaira, Sardar Sohi, and Guggu Gill. The film explores the consequences of India's partition on Punjab and portrays the journey of two individuals from different religions and nations who fall in love, uniting through their shared Punjabi cultural values.
