New Delhi, April 8 (NationPress) Punjabi film actor and comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi, who is preparing for the debut of his latest film “Akaal: The Unconquered”, expressed his views on the allure of period films. He noted that historical narratives resonate with viewers because "history is captivating as it has already transpired."
“We harbor no fear of the past. It has already occurred. There exists only curiosity about the past. How did it unfold? Why did it unfold? I suggest you take a peek into a photo album at home. You will find black and white photographs,” Gurpreet remarked in an interview with IANS.
“You may also discover pictures that appear more yellowed than black and white. You might linger on that page for 10 minutes. You are always curious about your history,” he further explained.
The actor elaborated on the reasons behind the popularity of historical films.
“History is fascinating because it has already happened. Everything you know regarding it is factual. The future remains uncertain. This is a reality. I believe that if period films are crafted well, it’s why everyone is eager to revisit the past,” he stated.
“You too must desire the same world. Just like people from humble villages used to gather together. If well-made, period films will certainly attract viewers,” he added.
“Akaal: The Unconquered,” set in 1840s Punjab, will be released on April 10. The film narrates the story of honor and resilience, following Sardar Akaal Singh and his village as they confront a vengeful attack from Jangi Jahan and his forces after Maharaja Ranjeet Singh's demise.
Gurpreet commenced his journey in theater in the early 1990s, subsequently taking on roles in television series such as Ronak Mela and the soap opera Parchhaven. He gained global recognition through comedic lead roles in his videos Ghuggi Junction and Ghuggi Shoo Mantar, before launching his film career as Patwari Jhilmil Singh in Asa Nu Maan Watna Da.
He gained acclaim for his role in Carry On Jatta and received praise for his significant performance in Ardaas.
