Mumbai, Aug 20 (NationPress) Actor Pratik Gandhi has expressed his passion for period films and series, including acclaimed works such as Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story, Phule, Saare Jahan Se Accha, and Gandhi.
In a recent interview with IANS, he stated, “I have also engaged with similar narratives in theatre. Our historical heritage is incredibly rich, brimming with captivating tales. It’s thrilling to delve into these stories, and if these opportunities arise, we should seize them.”
When asked why period dramas resonate across generations, he remarked, “These shows are delightful to watch because they reveal how people reacted to various situations. They allow us to draw parallels to our own lives… and they carry a depth that seems to have diminished in our fast-paced world today. It’s refreshing to pause and reflect.”
Saare Jahan Se Accha chronicles the intense journey of RAW agent Vishnu Shankar, tasked with a perilous mission in the heart of Pakistan.
Set against the fraught backdrop of the 1970s—an era where every strategic decision could trigger a global nuclear crisis—the series illustrates the fierce intelligence battle between India’s RAW and Pakistan’s ISI.
The cast includes Pratik Gandhi, Suhail Nayyar, Kritika Kamra, Tillotama Shome, Rajat Kapoor, and Anup Soni.
Produced by Bombay Fables and created by Gaurav Shukla, with Bhavesh Mandalia as the creative producer, Saare Jahan Se Accha is set to premiere on Netflix just before Independence Day on August 13.
Discussing his forthcoming series Gandhi, Pratik shared that it is a biographical historical drama crafted by Hansal Mehta.
It will portray the life of Mahatma Gandhi, drawing from Ramachandra Guha’s books Gandhi Before India and Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World. The series is envisioned to unfold over three seasons.
The first season will trace Gandhi’s formative years, starting from his teenage days in colonial India, moving to his time as a reserved law student in London, and concluding with his impactful 23 years as a lawyer in South Africa. The world premiere is slated for the 'Primetime Programme' at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 17, 2025.
