Nine Drug Traffickers Apprehended in Kashmir Valley, Substantial Narcotics Seized

Srinagar, Dec 25 (NationPress) The J&K Police reported on Wednesday the arrest of nine drug traffickers across different districts in the Kashmir Valley, alongside the recovery of various narcotic substances.

"In our relentless pursuit to combat the drug crisis within society, the police have detained nine individuals involved in drug trafficking in various districts of the Kashmir Valley, seizing contraband and psychotropic substances from them," a police statement indicated.

In Srinagar, a team from the Nowhatta police station apprehended two drug traffickers during a routine checkpoint at Ganj Baksh Park. The suspects were identified as Khalid Ahmad, son of Mohd Ismail Rather, residing in Rashan Ghat, Soura, and Basit Ahmad Dar, son of Bilal Ahmad Dar, a resident of Usmaniya Colony, Wantpora, Eidgah. A significant amount of contraband was found in their possession.

In the Baramulla district, officers from the Baramulla police station intercepted an individual named Mubashir Mohiuddin Dar, son of Gh Mohiuddin from Azadgunj, at a checkpoint at Azadgunj Chowk. Following a search, they recovered 200 grams of Charas and made an arrest.

Meanwhile, in Bandipora, during a routine checkpoint at Papachan bridge, police officials detained a drug trafficker and seized 47 bottles of codeine phosphate. The suspect, identified as Irshad Ahmad Wani, son of Habibullah Wani, hails from Hajin. Additionally, at Shokbaba Sumlar, another suspect was arrested with 40 grams of Charas. He was identified as Ab Rashid Sheikh, son of Sonaullaha Sheikh, from Arin.

Furthermore, at a checkpoint at Check Chandergeer, a police team stopped a vehicle with registration number JK15C-0747 driven by Mohmad Aqib Wani, son of Gh Mohd Wani from Hajin. During the search, they recovered 98 bottles of codeine phosphate. The driver was arrested, and the vehicle used for the crime was seized.

In a similar operation, Sopore police detained two drug traffickers during a checkpoint at Trumgund Crossing. The suspects, Aamir Farooq Dar, son of Farooq Ahmad Dar from Ningli Sopore, and Javaid Ahmad Gujri alias Diya Goor, son of Ghulam Nabi Gujri from Jamai Qadeem Sopore, were found in possession of 20 grams of brown sugar.

In Kupwara, police intercepted a motorcycle with registration number JK05D-5529 heading towards Trehgam at a checkpoint near a petrol pump at Batergam. The rider, identified as Mohd Anwar Raina, son of Mohd Israiel Raina from Amroohi, Karnah, attempted to evade capture but was apprehended. A search revealed 14 grams of brown sugar in his possession. Initial investigations suggest that he was allegedly transporting the narcotic to promote drug abuse among the youth of Kupwara, posing a significant risk to societal health.

Following these incidents, cases under applicable laws have been registered at the respective police stations, with investigations underway.

"Addressing the drug issue is a shared obligation, and we call on everyone to assist the J&K Police in this crucial initiative to safeguard our community," the statement concluded.
