Three Drug Traffickers Apprehended in Baramulla, J&K

Srinagar, Dec 11 (NationPress) Authorities have apprehended three individuals involved in drug trafficking within the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to police officials on Wednesday.

A police statement indicated, “In our ongoing efforts to tackle the drug problem in society, Baramulla Police have taken into custody three drug peddlers and seized illegal substances from their possession.”

The police team from Police Station Pattan, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), stopped a vehicle (Ertiga, registration number JK05M-8404) at a checkpoint located near the Railway Crossing Pattan.

“The vehicle was occupied by three suspects identified as: Jhon Mohd Mir, son of Gh Mohd Mir, a resident of Nillah Palpora; Mohd Yaqoob Mir, son of the late Ab Aziz, also a resident of Nillah Palpora; and Faisal Ahmad Hajam, son of Gh Qadir, from Pushwari Anantnag. During the search, 78 grams of contraband Charas (in powder form) were discovered in their possession. The accused have been arrested and taken to Police Station Pattan for further legal actions,” stated the officials.

“In addition, the vehicle utilized for the crime has been confiscated. A case under applicable legal sections has been filed at Police Station Pattan, and an investigation is currently underway. We encourage the public to report any instances of drug trafficking or criminal activities to the nearest police station or call 112,” the officials further emphasized.

The police have underscored that the community's cooperation is crucial in the fight against drug-related issues.

“Baramulla Police reaffirm their resolve to impose strict legal measures against those engaged in criminal activities,” the police statement concluded.

The J&K Police have intensified their operations against drug traffickers and peddlers, as this issue has been heavily affecting local youth. Additionally, it is suspected that drug addiction is being used as a method to attract youth towards terrorism.

According to intelligence agencies, funds generated from the drug trade are partially used to finance various terrorist groups in the union territory.
