What Is the Main Reason Behind the Campus Incident at NMIMS?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Indore, Feb 13 (NationPress) Following the uproar caused by a group concerning a student event at NMIMS Deemed-to-be University in Indore, the Director of the institution, Anshuman Jaswal, stated on Friday that the disturbance stemmed from a “rumour” regarding the event.
In a phone conversation with IANS, Jaswal recounted that a few days prior, a group of individuals had arrived on campus seeking donations for a cultural initiative. However, they were turned away.
“This group, presenting themselves as members of an organization, approached the campus. Yet, when our staff contacted the event organizers, we learned that they lacked permission to solicit donations from educational institutions. Consequently, they left without any contributions,” he explained.
Concerning the event held on Thursday at NMIMS, Jaswal clarified that it was a modest gathering organized by students, and even faculty members did not take part.
“Rumours circulated that a large event was in the works, with external guests paying an entry fee of Rs 2,000, which was entirely untrue. That misinformation led members of the organization to come to campus,” he added.
When asked if the local police were notified about the event, Jaswal mentioned it was not a large-scale program.
“For big cultural events, including our annual festival, we always inform the police, both verbally and in writing. However, this was merely a small internal gathering,” he noted.
In response to inquiries about a notice allegedly issued by local law enforcement, Jaswal stated, “We have visited the local police station and submitted our reply, along with multiple videos and photographs of the incident. We are unaware of any notice being issued to NMIMS or any other party.”
Footage from the incident depicted a group of approximately 50 youths, some carrying sticks, entering the campus and damaging property. Some were seen in heated exchanges with faculty and police officers. Following police intervention, several individuals sat at the college entrance chanting the Hanuman Chalisa.
After the Thursday incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Krishna Lalchandani informed the media that members of an organization had caused a disruption on campus.
“We have commenced an investigation. The CCTV footage and recordings of the incident are under review, and suitable legal action will ensue,” he concluded.
