New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) Nearly a week has passed since the electoral draft rolls were made public in Bihar; however, as of the morning of August 6, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has reported that no political party has lodged any objections or complaints.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Bihar was characterized by significant outcry and protests from opposition parties, who alleged multiple irregularities and a hurried procedure that could disenfranchise millions of voters.
The ECI stated that there have been absolutely no claims submitted by any political party up to this point.
Conversely, over 19,000 new electors, who have reached the age of 18 since the SIR process, have completed their applications for inclusion in the voter registry.
According to data released by the commission, 3,659 electors have directly submitted their objections to the ECI concerning the draft voter list.
The electoral draft rolls were published on August 1, with a one-month window provided for individuals and parties to present their complaints and grievances about the inclusion or exclusion from the draft electoral list.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) boasts 47,506 booth-level agents (BLAs), the Congress party has 17,549, and the Left has over 2,000, cumulatively exceeding 67,000.
The ECI has actively engaged political parties to participate in the revision process and report any instances of disenfranchisement.
“Please submit your claims and objections to correct any inaccuracies in the draft Electoral Roll of Bihar published on August 1. Remarkably, not a single claim or objection has yet been presented by any political party,” the ECI stated on Wednesday.
The enumeration phase of the SIR was completed between June 24 and July 25, with more than 7.24 crore electors out of a total of 7.89 crore submitting their enumeration forms during the exercise.
Ultimately, approximately 65 lakh voters were found to be absent from the draft electoral rolls released on August 1. This figure includes 22 lakh deceased electors (2.83%), 36 lakh (4.59%) who had moved permanently or could not be located, and seven lakh (0.89%) who registered in multiple locations, according to ECI data.
