Tumakuru, Karnataka, March 21 (NationPress) - A tragic event unfolded when a government officer from the Karnataka Social Welfare Department took his own life at his workplace just days before his retirement. Prior to his passing, he recorded a video, accusing a senior official of harassment.

The individual has been identified as Mallikarjun, who served as an Assistant Director in the Social Welfare Department. Originally from Gundarlahalli village near Pavagada, he had dedicated three years to the department and was set to retire within a week.

As per police reports, Mallikarjun's video indicated that his senior officer played a key role in his tragic decision. He sent the video to colleagues before ending his life in his office on a Wednesday.

In the footage, Mallikarjun explicitly named Joint Director Krishnappa as the source of his distress, stating, “My family has always supported me and made me proud. I should have been able to support them, but due to Krishnappa's harassment, I've been driven to this point.”

He further expressed, “Krishnappa will face divine retribution. There’s no need for my family to seek vengeance; he will be judged by God and the law.”

The authorities in Pavagada have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Interestingly, a sorrowful aspect of this narrative emerges: Mallikarjun's father also worked in the same Social Welfare Department and passed away just months before his retirement. Following his father's death, Mallikarjun secured his position in the department on compassionate grounds. Now, he too has tragically died merely a week before his own retirement. Investigations are ongoing.

In a related incident, another officer, Chandrashekharan P, aged 48, took his own life on May 26, 2024, at his Shivamogga residence while his family was away. His six-page suicide note detailed harassment from colleagues who pressured him to transfer funds unlawfully.
