Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 10 (NationPress) JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar on Tuesday accused RJD leaders of employing unparliamentary and provocative language in the Bihar Legislative Council. He emphasized the declining discipline and deteriorating political decorum in the assembly.
In a conversation with IANS, Neeraj Kumar remarked that the Opposition's actions in the Council since Monday have been unacceptable and contrary to established standards.
“Since yesterday, the Opposition's conduct in the Council has been quite objectionable. They have been disregarding the rules set by Deputy Speaker Ram Bachan Rai. They are pointing fingers at the Speaker and Assembly members,” Kumar stated.
He additionally accused the Opposition of obstructing proceedings and preventing ministers from speaking.
“If the minister belongs to the Dalit community, they will not allow them to speak. What gives them the right? The Speaker has the video evidence. Such conduct is unacceptable,” he asserted.
Kumar claimed that video recordings of the incident exist and will reveal who engaged in abusive language within the House.
“The footage is available, and it will show who is being abusive. Now, the Speaker will review the situation. Who has granted the Opposition the authority to behave stubbornly while the Speaker is present?” he added.
Meanwhile, upon exiting the Bihar Legislative Council, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi stated that she and her colleagues communicated democratically and adhered to the House’s protocols. She also condemned the use of unparliamentary language by senior members within the Council.
Previously, Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar referred to former Chief Minister Rabri Devi as “ye jo ladki hai (this girl),” which sparked significant uproar in the Legislative Council.
During a heated exchange, Bihar government minister Ashok Choudhary and Opposition MLC Sunil Singh had a confrontation. The situation escalated to a point where both sides allegedly exceeded their limits, disrupting the decorum of the House.
As he departed from the House, Ashok Choudhary remarked that the Opposition had already made comments about the ruling party even before proceedings commenced, while the ruling side chose not to respond. He further claimed that a senior leader from the Opposition, described as capable and Harvard-educated, initiated unnecessary disruption.
According to Choudhary, the Speaker called for both sides to maintain composure, but the Opposition remained defiant. He alleged that Opposition members stood from their seats, entered the Well of the House, and continued to create chaos.
He noted that the Speaker repeatedly urged the Opposition to sit down and let the House operate smoothly, but the disturbances persisted. Following this, the Speaker warned the Opposition of a possible one-day expulsion from the House.
