New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) In a devastating fire incident at a building in New Delhi's Palam area, nine individuals tragically lost their lives on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased.
The fire erupted early in the morning at a multi-storey building located in Ram Market, Palam, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) released a statement saying, "The incident in Palam, Delhi, is deeply saddening. I offer my heartfelt sympathies to those mourning the loss of their loved ones. I wish for the swift recovery of the injured."
It was further noted that Rs. 2 lakh would be provided from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each victim, while the injured would receive Rs. 50,000.
In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
The alarming news reached Police Station Palam Village around 7:04 a.m., prompting the Station House Officer (SHO) and other officers to quickly arrive at the scene.
The fire broke out in a four-storey structure located at WZ-124A, Ram Chowk Market. Officials stated that the basement, ground floor, and first floor housed a clothing and cosmetic showroom owned by Rajender Kashyap, who also served as the Market Pradhan, while his family lived on the upper floors.
Rescue teams successfully evacuated several individuals from the building and transported them to nearby medical facilities. However, casualties were reported across various hospitals.
At Manipal Hospital, eight victims, including Pravesh (33), Kamal (39), Ashu (35), Lado (70), Himanshi (22), and three young girls aged 15, 6, and 3 years, were pronounced dead.
Additionally, at IGI Hospital, a woman named Deepika (approximately 28 years old) was declared dead upon arrival, while a male patient, Anil (approximately 32), and a two-year-old girl are currently receiving treatment.
At Safdarjung Hospital, a man named Sachin (29) was admitted with severe burn injuries, estimated at around 25%.
