Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow on Wednesday regarding the tragic loss of life in the fire incident in Indore. He announced a financial aid of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
According to officials, the devastating fire broke out in a three-storey residence located in the Tilak Nagar area of Madhya Pradesh's Indore during the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in the loss of at least six lives.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) conveyed through X, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the fire incident in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. My condolences are with the bereaved families, and I wish for the swift recovery of the injured."
"An ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh will be disbursed from the PMNRF for the next of kin of each victim. In addition, the injured will receive Rs. 50,000," it further stated.
The fire erupted unexpectedly, quickly spreading throughout the building, catching residents unprepared.
Officials noted that the residence belonged to a businessman named Manoj. It is suspected that a short circuit, possibly linked to an electric vehicle charging outside the home, ignited the flames. The fire escalated rapidly, engulfing the entire three-storey building and leaving little time for the occupants to escape.
Indore Collector Shivam Verma confirmed the fatalities during a conversation with IANS, stating that more than ten individuals were inside the house at the time of the fire. While three individuals were rescued, six tragically did not survive.
He added that a firefighting team of around 8 to 10 personnel swiftly responded to the scene and successfully contained the fire after considerable effort.
Neighbors reported that the family had guests visiting at the time, increasing the number of people present in the house.
"Around 3 a.m., we learned about the fire and immediately contacted fire services. Unfortunately, the blaze was so intense that it spread rapidly throughout the home. Some residents suffered injuries, and some are confirmed deceased," a neighbor recounted to IANS.
Councillor Rajiv Jain described the family as well-known and actively involved in community activities.
"They were always participating in local events and assisting others. This is a profoundly tragic incident, and we wish for the prompt recovery of the injured," Jain remarked to IANS.
The injured individuals have been hospitalized and are currently receiving treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Authorities are awaiting further details as the investigation into the incident continues.
