Has Palaniswami Criticized DMK at NDA Rally?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 23 (NationPress) In a pointed political critique of the ruling DMK, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami proclaimed on Friday that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is positioned at the "right moment, right place and right leadership" to seize power back in Tamil Nadu.
During the NDA’s election campaign rally held at Madurantakam near Chennai, Palaniswami expressed optimism and forecasted a significant victory for the alliance in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
This rally, which officially launched the NDA's campaign in the state, saw the participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose attendance significantly enhanced the event's political gravity.
Prominent leaders from the alliance, including PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran, Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan, along with other NDA members, also graced the stage.
Commenting on the Prime Minister's visit, Palaniswami employed a symbolic metaphor, stating: “When Prime Minister Modi arrived on this land, even nature responded with the sun hiding itself. When we unite with the right individuals at the right time, victory is guaranteed. That moment is now.”
Directing his remarks at the DMK government and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Palaniswami accused the past four-and-a-half years of inflicting suffering upon the populace.
“What benefits has Stalin offered Tamil Nadu apart from hardship? Is it justifiable to exploit eight crore citizens for the sake of one family?” he questioned, alleging that the Karunanidhi family has been plundering the state while endorsing dynastic politics.
Claiming that corruption was the only achievement of the DMK government, the AIADMK leader criticized the ruling party for promoting Udhayanidhi Stalin to significant positions without merit.
Labeling the upcoming election as the DMK’s "final" opportunity, Palaniswami asserted that the NDA would decisively defeat the ruling party and establish the next government by securing 210 seats.
Emphasizing the AIADMK’s period in governance, Palaniswami noted that Tamil Nadu greatly benefitted from a collaborative partnership with the Centre.
He highlighted approvals for substantial infrastructure initiatives, such as new bridges, national highways, Chennai Metro Rail Phase II, and Central funding amounting to Rs 63,000 crore.
Furthermore, he referred to critical irrigation and water projects, asserting that the Centre provided full backing during the AIADMK administration.
“Tamil Nadu thrived during the AIADMK's governance because we worked in harmony with the Union government. That growth will return once again,” Palaniswami concluded, setting a vigorous tone for the NDA campaign leading up to the elections.
