New Delhi, Aug 20 (NationPress) A significant uproar erupted in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday when Opposition MPs, including members of the Trinamool Congress, tore and threw copies of three vital bills at Union Home Minister Amit Shah as he was introducing them. The BJP has vehemently condemned this incident, labeling it a “disgraceful act that would tarnish any civilized society.”
BJP MP and actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut remarked that the Opposition’s behavior had transgressed all bounds of parliamentary decorum.
“What transpired in Parliament today is something that would bring shame to any civilized society. When our Home Minister Amit Shah was presenting a bill, Opposition leaders attempted to snatch his microphone. Even worse, they tore the bill and threw it at him. Some even came armed with stones and hurled them. Yet, our party remained patient,” she added.
BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi described the conduct as “truly unfortunate.”
“Opposition members caused chaos from their seats and crossed every line of decorum. Several women MPs and TMC members attempted to assault the Home Minister. They tore copies of the bill and hurled them at him. This was not dissent; it was an attack,” she stated.
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj characterized the scenes as “nothing short of the murder of democracy.”
“Trinamool Congress MPs, particularly one of their female MPs, attempted to snatch the microphone, tore pages, and flung them in the House. This act has embarrassed the voters, the public, and the very essence of democracy. The BJP categorically condemns such behavior,” she told IANS.
BJP leader Annpurna Devi also criticized the incident.
“The entire nation is observing. The conduct displayed today, notably by Trinamool Congress members, was profoundly inappropriate. Even senior and respected MPs behaved in this unruly manner while the Home Minister was presenting the Bill. The Opposition claims ruling party MPs also attacked them, but that is a falsehood. We were merely standing, not attacking. What they did was against every norm of parliamentary decorum,” she asserted.
The chaos unfolded as Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. The first bill seeks the automatic removal of Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Union Ministers facing corruption or serious criminal charges if held for 30 consecutive days.
Opposition MPs vehemently opposed the initiative, tearing copies of the bills and shouting slogans. Amid the turmoil, Amit Shah proposed that the bills be referred to a Joint Committee of Parliament for further consideration.
