Mathura, Jan 22 (NationPress) - Early Thursday morning, chaos unfolded on the Yamuna Expressway as a bus unexpectedly erupted in flames near Milestone 110, in the vicinity of the Raya police station in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district.
A sense of panic took over the passengers when a significant fire broke out in a Raj Kalpana (Sanskar Travels) bus, which was en route to Noida.
Amidst the thick smoke and flames engulfing the vehicle, passengers were spotted screaming but succeeded in escaping by leaping through windows and doors before the fire could escalate further.
The bus, registered as UP90 AT 8837, was making its way from Banda to Delhi-Noida via Agra.
At around 5:15 a.m., smoke began to pour from the moving bus, and in mere moments, the entire vehicle was consumed by flames.
At the time of the incident, approximately 10 to 15 passengers were aboard, including both women and children.
Upon realizing the fire, the driver halted the bus on the expressway, which sent the passengers into a frenzy as they hurried to evacuate for their safety.
Some individuals were compelled to leap out of the windows while the fire raged, as the flames quickly spread throughout the bus. Fortunately, all passengers escaped without any fatalities.
Following the incident, personnel from the Raya police station and the Yamuna Expressway rescue team responded promptly. Fire brigade units arrived at the scene and, after significant effort, successfully extinguished the flames.
However, by the time they managed to control the fire, the bus had been entirely reduced to ashes.
The incident resulted in a lengthy traffic jam on the expressway, with vehicles queued for several hours. The police later used a crane to remove the charred remains of the bus, allowing traffic to resume.
Some of the identified passengers included Ijaz from Banda, Atul from Noida, Shyam Singh from Banda, Sonu from Kanpur, Saroj from Banda, Uma, Ajay Soni, Shivani, Aarti, and Dayaram, all residents of Banda.
Officials announced that an investigation has been launched to determine the precise cause of the fire, examining whether it stemmed from a short circuit or another technical malfunction in the bus.
