Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 10 (NationPress) A dynamic three-day trade fair is currently taking place in Patna, showcasing the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana. Approximately 60 stalls have been established for traditional artisans and scheme beneficiaries to exhibit and sell their artisanal crafts.
The event is hosted from March 10 to 12 at the MSME Development Office on the Patna campus. Its primary goal is to offer a substantial platform for traditional artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs to present and market their creations.
The fair was inaugurated by Prem Kumar, the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. In his speech, he highlighted that the PM Vishwakarma Yojana is a significant initiative aimed at bolstering traditional artisans. It seeks to enhance artisans' skills, provide financial empowerment, and close the gap between producers and the marketplace.
He further stated that Bihar boasts a long-standing tradition of skilled artisans and small-scale industries.
“Historically, these artisans have struggled due to a lack of resources and financial support, hindering their skill advancement. However, this situation is evolving,” he remarked.
He elaborated that the scheme is increasing artisans' earnings and generating new job opportunities through small industries, urging widespread dissemination of information about the program.
Rakesh Kumar Chaudhary, Director of the MSME Development Office, emphasized that the fair aims to provide traditional artisans a venue to showcase their products, access markets, and expand their businesses.
Numerous beneficiaries shared their experiences with the PM Vishwakarma Yojana during the fair. Manita Azad, a soft toy maker, expressed that the initiative has been immensely beneficial, particularly for small artisans in rural areas and those facing unemployment. She noted that the program offers training to help individuals refine their skills, initiate self-employment, and contribute to national development.
Manita Azad stated, “Throughout the training, all essential materials, including cloth, needles, and thread, are provided. Additionally, travel allowances and daily stipends ensure that trainees do not encounter financial hardships. Upon completing the training, beneficiaries receive an initial loan of about one lakh rupees, with options for additional loans of two to three lakh rupees to kickstart their self-employment journeys.”
She added that since 2024, she has been instructing children in soft toy making and is thrilled to witness their learning progress. She believes that with more encouragement for this scheme, Indian-made cloth toys could be exported both domestically and internationally.
Another beneficiary, Ravi Kumar Gaurav, shared his transformation from unemployment to entrepreneurship after joining the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. He mentioned that he is now launching his own business producing small items, anticipating increased income as his products gain traction in the market. He views this scheme as extremely advantageous for young entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Arvind Ravidas, a stone sculptor from Gaya district, shared that he handcrafts sculptures and sells them at various fairs and stalls. After participating in the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, he benefited from training and financial aid, which significantly improved the quality of his work. His participation in multi-day fairs has not only provided him recognition but also a reliable income stream.
Aditya Raj, another participant in the program, explained that he received training, completed an examination, and earned a certificate under the scheme.
He also secured a loan of one lakh rupees and is awaiting the arrival of a toolkit he has applied for.
