New Delhi, March 15 (NationPress) - The Delhi Capitals have announced the departure of their former mentor Kevin Pietersen, following the England cricket legend's statement on Saturday that he would be stepping back from his duties due to time commitments. The 45-year-old is set to return to the commentary booth for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Pietersen joined the Delhi Capitals in February of the previous year, contributing to the 2025 season alongside the coaching team, which included Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao, Head Coach Hemang Badani, Assistant Coach Matthew Mott, and Bowling Coach Munaf Patel.
On Saturday, Pietersen communicated through X, sharing, “I cannot serve as a mentor for Delhi Capitals this IPL season due to time constraints. I wish all the players the best for this season! I’ll see you back in the commentary box! The IPL is the premier league in the world, and I’m eager to reconnect with everyone soon!”
The franchise honored Pietersen with a tribute on Sunday, stating, “Once a Dilliwala, always a Dilliwala. Thank you for all the love & roars, KP.” The former England star responded with a heart emoji on their post.
This week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the schedule for the initial phase of IPL 2026, set to occur from March 28 to April 12, 2026.
The BCCI noted, “As three states are slated to hold State Assembly elections during this timeframe, a complete schedule will be disclosed following the announcement of the poll dates.”
The 19th season of the world’s largest T20 league will open with the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) facing off against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
In total, 20 matches will unfold across 10 venues: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Guwahati, New Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad.
