New Delhi, Oct 1 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and emphasized that the organization represents a "virtuous incarnation" of an "eternal national consciousness" that has influenced every facet of our nation.
Established in 1925 in Nagpur by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the RSS was formed as a volunteer-driven initiative aimed at promoting cultural awareness, discipline, and social responsibility. Over the last century, it has evolved into one of India’s most prominent socio-cultural organizations.
Also present were RSS General Secretary (Sarkaryavah) Dattatreya Hosabale, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The Prime Minister began his speech by honoring the late BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra, who died at the age of 93, as well as Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.
During his address at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, PM Modi remarked, "Today marks the day of Goddess Siddhidatri, and I extend my Navratri greetings. Tomorrow is Vijayadashmi, a festival symbolizing the triumph of good over evil, justice over injustice, truth over falsehood, and light over darkness. The establishment of the RSS 100 years ago was not mere coincidence."
He added, "Throughout history, national consciousness emerges in various forms to confront the challenges of each era. In today’s context, the Sangh embodies this eternal national consciousness, and it is a privilege for our generation to witness its centenary."
The Prime Minister also unveiled a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and a coin reflecting the RSS's contributions to the nation.
He explained, "On the Rs 100 coin, one side features the National Emblem, while the other showcases Bharat Mata's Varada Mudra along with a lion and a Swayamsevak bowing to her in reverence. This is a historic first for Independent India, as Bharat Mata's image appears on our currency."
The newly launched postal stamp holds significant value, particularly given the RSS's participation in the Republic Day Parade in 1963, a moment captured in this stamp.
PM Modi stated, "Just as human communities flourish along riverbanks, many lives have thrived through the stream of the Sangh, which has influenced every aspect of our country."
He further noted, "The RSS comprises numerous sub-organizations, all united under the goal of 'Rashtriya Pratham' (Nation First). There are no contradictions among the sub-organizations."
Over the past century, the RSS and its affiliates have made remarkable contributions in education, health, social welfare, and disaster relief, often leading efforts during floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.
