New Delhi, Jan 24 (NationPress) On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed out over 61,000 appointment letters to newly hired youth during the 18th Rozgar Mela. Speaking via video link, he highlighted the importance of reforms, economic development, and the crucial role young people play in nation building. "Today, as you receive your appointment letters for government services, consider this an invitation for nation building," the Prime Minister remarked, urging the youth to remember their responsibilities towards the Constitution.
He stated that 2026 has ushered in renewed hope for citizens and has reinforced the connection between individuals and their constitutional responsibilities, coinciding with the grand festival of the Republic.
On January 23, the country commemorated Parakram Diwas in honor of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, while January 25 will observe National Voters’ Day, leading up to Republic Day. The Prime Minister pointed out that Saturday also held significance as it marked the day when the Constitution recognized ‘Jana Gana Mana’ as the National Anthem and ‘Vande Mataram’ as the National Song.
“To ensure that government recruitment is executed in a mission-oriented manner, the Rozgar Mela was initiated. Over the years, the Rozgar Mela has evolved into an institution,” said the Prime Minister.
He noted that the Rozgar Mela is being held at more than 40 locations nationwide. “I extend a special welcome to the youth present at all these sites. At today’s event, over 8,000 women have also received appointment letters,” he mentioned.
Discussing women’s workforce participation, he noted a nearly two-fold increase over the past eleven years. “Our daughters have greatly benefitted from government initiatives such as Mudra and Start-up India,” he stated.
The Prime Minister highlighted that female self-employment has surged by approximately 15 percent, with many women now serving as directors and founders of startups and MSMEs, while others are leading cooperative sectors and self-help groups in rural areas.
He also touched upon the nation’s “Reform Express,” which aims to simplify life and business in India.
“Everyone has gained from next-generation reforms like GST. Our young entrepreneurs and MSMEs are particularly benefiting from this,” he added.
Pointing to India’s rising status as a major manufacturing hub, the Prime Minister mentioned unprecedented growth in production and exports across sectors including electronics, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, defense, and automobiles.
Since 2014, electronics manufacturing has surged six-fold to exceed Rs 11 lakh crore, while electronics exports have surpassed Rs 4 lakh crore.
In the automobile sector, he stated it has become one of the fastest-growing industries, with two-wheeler sales projected to exceed two crore units by 2025, reflecting increased purchasing power facilitated by tax reforms and GST.
He emphasized the implementation of historic labor reforms, stating that workers, employees, and businesses are all beneficiaries. The new labor codes have broadened the scope of social security for workers and employees.
He mentioned that significant investments in modern infrastructure have boosted employment in construction-related sectors, while India’s startup ecosystem has expanded rapidly, with nearly two lakh registered startups employing over 21 lakh youth.
Furthermore, the initiative of Digital India has fostered a new economy, positioning the country as a global hub for animation, digital media, and other emerging sectors.
The Prime Minister also spotlighted the rapid growth of India’s creator economy, which is opening new employment avenues for the youth.
“The increasing global trust in India is generating new opportunities for our youth. India is the only large economy to have doubled its GDP within a decade. Currently, more than 100 countries are investing in India through FDI. In comparison to the decade before 2014, more than two-and-a-half times the foreign investment has flowed into the nation, creating countless job opportunities,” he concluded.
