New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) In the latest installment of his radio show 'Mann Ki Baat', Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the inspiring journey of Moirangthem Seth, a young resident of Manipur, who has successfully brought solar energy to countless homes in his community.
PM Modi remarked, 'Where there is a will, there is a way,' emphasizing how this saying resonates with the efforts of Seth, who is under 40 years old. Living in a remote area of Manipur faced with significant electricity challenges, he sought local solutions and turned to solar power as a viable option.
The Prime Minister noted that Manipur's conditions are highly conducive for solar energy generation, leading Moirangthem to launch a campaign for installing solar panels, which has resulted in hundreds of homes now powered by solar energy.
Not only has his initiative improved access to electricity, but it has also enhanced essential services and livelihoods in the region.
PM Modi stated, 'His initiative has transformed health care and livelihood opportunities,' mentioning that many health centers in Manipur are now benefiting from solar energy.
The impact has been particularly significant for women in the area, with local fishermen and artists also reaping the rewards of this endeavor.
The Prime Minister also pointed to the government's rooftop solar scheme, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which provides financial assistance of approximately Rs 75,000 to Rs 80,000 to each eligible family for solar panel installation.
He added, 'Moirangthem's personal efforts are invigorating the broader solar power movement, and I wish him the best through Mann Ki Baat.'
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to provide up to 300 units of free electricity per month to around one crore households by subsidizing rooftop solar panel installations, thus reducing electricity expenses and promoting energy independence.
Under this initiative, applicants can install solar panels on their rooftops and receive a significant subsidy directly to their bank accounts. They can also earn extra income by selling surplus electricity generated to the power grid.
