Bengaluru, Nov 28 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down at Karnataka’s Mangaluru International Airport on Friday to engage in several events in the nearby temple town of Udupi. He arrived on a special aircraft and will make his way to the Aadi Udupi helipad aboard an Army helicopter. From there, he will travel by road to Udupi city.
This marks his visit to Udupi in 14 years, with his last trip occurring during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, Rajya Sabha member and Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade, Minister for Urban Development Byrathi Suresh, and BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra will also be in attendance for the religious events.
During his visit, PM Modi will partake in a roadshow leading up to the Sri Krishna Matha. Local and regional cultural groups are set to join the festivities, with plans to shower flowers on the Prime Minister throughout the route.
Three designated viewing areas have been established for PM Modi to witness cultural performances. Shops and businesses within a five-kilometre radius will be closed.
The Prime Minister is expected to receive a traditional welcome at the historic Udupi Sri Krishna Math during his visit on Friday. He will be involved in the 'Laksha Kantha Gita' mass chanting event to be held in Udupi.
PM Modi will visit Madhwa Sarovara, have darshan of the deity, and conduct a special puja. Following this, he will attend the venue where over 100,000 devotees will recite Bhagavad Gita shlokas.
Additionally, he will unveil the Kanaka Kavacha (golden covering) for the divine Kanakana Kindi at the mutt.
The tale of the Udupi Kanakana Kindi recounts how the 16th-century poet-saint Kanakadasa was denied entry to the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple due to his low caste. His fervent devotion led to a miraculous act where the Lord Krishna idol turned to face him.
A crack appeared in the wall, allowing Kanakadasa to view the deity; this spot was later transformed into a small window, known as Kanakana Kindi.
Seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami stated: "The mutt will present Suwarna Thirta Mantapa to the deity through PM Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit Sarvagnya Peeta, the goshala, and the new Gita Mandira. He will interact with all seers of the Ashta Mutts in the Chandrashale and receive their blessings. PM Modi has shown interest in sampling some local Udupi specialties, including patrode.”
Devotees will commence reciting Bhagavad Gita shlokas at 9 a.m. Upon PM Modi's arrival at the event, recitations from Chapter 15 -- Purushottama Yoga -- and the last ten shlokas of the final chapter will be presented. Devotees across the nation and abroad will join the recitation online.
“After visiting the temple, PM Modi will engage in the historic Gita chanting event, where over 100,000 participants, including students, monks, scholars, and individuals from various backgrounds, will recite the Bhagavad Gita in unison. He will also address the audience.
To ensure safety, more than 3,000 police personnel have been deployed in and around Udupi city. Two layers of barricades have been established—one for police security and the other for the public.
This will be PM Modi's inaugural visit to the Sri Krishna Math since assuming office.
The Udupi city administration, police, and district authorities are finalizing preparations.
Ten Superintendents of Police (SPs), 27 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs), 49 Police Inspectors, 127 Sub-Inspectors, 232 ASIs, 1,608 constables, 39 women staff, six platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), and six Quick Response Teams (QRT) will be stationed throughout the coastal city.
