Bengaluru, Nov 28 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an enthusiastic reception during his roadshow in the revered town of Udupi on Friday, with thousands of supporters lining a two-kilometre route, showering him with flower petals.

Throughout the 20-minute journey, Prime Minister Modi joyfully acknowledged the crowd, waving and raising both hands in response to their cheers.

He reciprocated by tossing back the flower petals that were thrown at him.

The roadshow commenced at Bannanje Narayana Guru Circle and wound through locations such as Jayalaxmi Silk Junction, the City Bus Stand, and Kalsanka Junction. It culminated at the historic Udupi Sri Krishna Matha, where he engaged in several religious activities.

Earlier, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and other BJP leaders welcomed him at Mangaluru International Airport.

BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra remarked, "Prime Minister Modi's visit to Udupi and his involvement in the 'Laksha Kantha Gita' mass-chanting event have brought joy and energy to the people. Following our electoral victory in Bihar, party members are particularly enthusiastic. A significant number of women attended the roadshow to see Prime Minister Modi. All BJP MPs and MLAs organized this event."

Various cultural groups also greeted him with performances at designated points along the route.

After the roadshow, Prime Minister Modi arrived at the historic Udupi Sri Krishna Matha, where he received a grand traditional welcome.

This marks his first visit to Udupi in 14 years; his last visit was during his time as Chief Minister of Gujarat. Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, Rajya Sabha member and Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade, Minister for Urban Development Byrathi Suresh, and BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra will be part of the religious ceremonies.

The Prime Minister unveiled the 'Kanaka Kavacha' (golden covering) for the divine 'Kanakana Kindi' at the mutt.

The story behind the Udupi 'Kanakana Kindi' involves the 16th-century poet-saint Kanakadasa, who was denied entry to the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple due to his low caste. His fervent prayers from outside moved the idol of Lord Krishna, which miraculously turned to face him.

A crack formed in the wall, allowing Kanakadasa to see the deity; this spot was later developed into a small window, known as 'Kanakana Kindi'.

Seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami mentioned, "PM Modi offered Suwarna Thirta Mantapa to the deity."

He also interacted with the seers of the Ashta Mutts in the Chandrashale, receiving their blessings.

PM Modi expressed interest in sampling a small selection of Udupi's special dishes, including 'patrode'.
