New Delhi, Nov 28 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive a traditional welcome at the historic Udupi Sri Krishna Math during his visit on Friday, where he will also take part in the 'Laksha Kantha Gita' mass-chanting event.

The Prime Minister will be greeted in a traditional manner at the temple on Friday morning. He will visit Madhwa Sarovara, have darshan of the deity, and perform a special puja. Following this, he will head to the event venue where over 1 lakh devotees are set to recite verses from the Bhagavad Gita, as stated by Paryaya Puttige Mutt seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami on Thursday.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will unveil the “Kanaka Kavacha” (golden covering) for the divine “Kanakana Kindi” at the mutt.

The Udupi Kanakana Kindi story involves the 16th-century poet-saint Kanakadasa, who was denied entry to the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple due to his low caste. His fervent devotion from outside moved the idol of Lord Krishna, which miraculously turned to face him.

A crack appeared in the wall, allowing Kanakadasa to see the deity; this spot later became a small window, known as Kanakana Kindi.

According to seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami, the mutt will present Suwarna Thirta Mantapa to the deity through PM Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Sarvagnya Peeta, the goshala, and the new Gita Mandira. He is also expected to interact with all seers of the Ashta Mutts in the Chandrashale and receive their blessings. He has expressed interest in trying a small portion of Udupi's special dishes, including 'patrode'.

Devotees will commence the recitation of Bhagavad Gita verses at 9 a.m. Upon the Prime Minister's arrival at the event venue, verses from Chapter 15 -- Purushottama Yoga -- followed by the last ten verses of the final chapter will be recited. Devotees from various parts of the country and overseas will join the recitation online. All attendees will be provided food, and all poojas at the Krishna Mutt will conclude by 8 a.m. on Friday.

An official statement noted: “The sacred temple town of Udupi, located on the coast, is gearing up for a momentous spiritual and cultural event on November 28, 2025.
