New Delhi, Jan 11 (NationPress) Swami Swaprakash, a Trustee of the Vaidic Dharma Sansthan and affiliated with The Art of Living Foundation, commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his commitment to safeguarding Sanatan Dharma and revitalizing the respect for India's sacred sites.
In an interview with IANS, he remarked, "India is indeed fortunate to have a Prime Minister who upholds Sanatan Dharma and reinstates the honor of our religious locations; even at home, our demographics are being revitalized. It was crucial to have a leader like this, and it is a matter of immense pride."
Swami Swaprakash highlighted the enduring nature of Sanatan Dharma, asserting that it cannot be obliterated since all significant faiths have their roots in it.
He referred to historical efforts to diminish Indian heritage, recalling Ghazni's assault on the Somnath Temple, pointing out that remnants of the Shivalinga were discovered despite invasions, and Shankaracharya Ji was entrusted with its reconstruction. He noted that during this period, plans for the Ram Temple were also mentioned by the venerated saint.
"The same occurred when Ghazni attempted to annihilate Somnath; some remnants of the Shivalinga were located, and for a millennium, Shankaracharya Ji was tasked with its revival. At that time, he also spoke of constructing the Ram Temple," he said.
Discussing the history of Somnath Temple, Swami Swaprakash stated it was founded in the 'Satyug' by 'Chandra Dev', the moon deity.
"According to legend, due to his vanity, King Daksha cursed him. After repentance, Daksha advised him to worship Lord Shiva in Saurashtra, leading to the establishment of the first Jyotirlinga of Somnath Ji," explained Swami Swaprakash.
The temple has symbolized spiritual devotion and resilience throughout the centuries, enduring invasions and natural disasters.
His comments arise amid a resurgence of interest in India's ancient temples and cultural heritage, with the government focusing on the preservation, restoration, and promotion of religious sites across the nation. He stressed the significance of leadership that emphasizes spiritual and cultural pride alongside national growth.
The spiritual leader asserted that the protection and promotion of Sanatan Dharma is not just a religious duty but a cultural obligation that fortifies India's identity and secures the continuity of its timeless traditions.
Swami Swaprakash's statements connect the historical reverence for sites like Somnath Temple with modern efforts to revive religious landmarks, illustrating the lasting importance of India's spiritual and cultural heritage.
