Bengaluru, July 16 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has labeled the AICC OBC Advisory Council meeting in Bengaluru as a theatrical performance orchestrated by the Congress in light of the impending Bihar Assembly elections. They have challenged the party to name Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress chief, as a candidate for Prime Minister.
The BJP further urged Congress to officially name AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, a prominent Dalit figure, as their Prime Ministerial candidate if they genuinely prioritize the interests of SCs, STs, and OBCs.
In a press briefing at the BJP headquarters on Wednesday, Karnataka BJP President, B.Y. Vijayendra remarked, “The Congress party’s OBC panel meeting has captured national attention. Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asserted that the committee is responsible for advancing the social movement across the nation. He accused the BJP of consistently opposing reservations and social equity.
“I want to inquire from CM Siddaramaiah, national Congress leaders, and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi whether they sincerely care about the OBCs, SCs, STs, and minorities.”
“I challenge LoP Rahul Gandhi — if the Congress truly cares about the Backward Classes, SCs, and STs — let him announce Mallikarjun Kharge as the Prime Ministerial candidate. But they won’t. The Gandhi family will not permit it. Neither Rahul Gandhi nor Sonia Gandhi will endorse it,” Vijayendra asserted.
He alleged that the OBC meeting's agenda was not focused on the upliftment or advancement of OBCs, but rather on securing electoral advantages in Bihar.
“This is the true motive. With the Bihar elections approaching, the AICC OBC panel meeting is convening in Bengaluru — an effort that lacks genuine significance. It is merely a political ploy designed for the upcoming Bihar polls,” he contended.
Vijayendra further alleged that CM Siddaramaiah dismissed the Kantharaj Commission’s caste census report — created at a cost of Rs 165 crore — under the influence of LoP Gandhi.
“The Mandal Commission report was ignored during the Congress administration. The Kaka Kalelkar Commission (the first Backward Classes commission) report of 1956 was also disregarded by Pandit Nehru,” he stated.
“Can a party that has treated SCs, STs, OBCs, and minorities as subservient to the Gandhi family now claim to bring justice to them? Why has Congress suddenly established an OBC panel? It’s all because the Bihar Assembly elections are imminent. They see Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah as an AHINDA and OBC poster child. They must be mistaken,” Vijayendra claimed.
He concluded, “CM Siddaramaiah should bear in mind that after Independence, Congress governed the nation for 55 to 60 years, and one family dominated it for 50 years.”
“If Siddaramaiah and Congress now assert that injustices have been inflicted upon OBCs, SCs, STs, and minorities — it is Congress that is accountable for it,” he concluded.
