Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 21 (NationPress) Amid the prevailing uncertainty surrounding leadership in the Karnataka Congress, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi announced on Saturday that AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge informed him that a conclusion has been reached regarding the leadership situation in the state, promising that the confusion will be clarified soon.
Jarkiholi made these remarks in Delhi following his meeting with Kharge at his residence located on Rajaji Marg.
“Kharge conveyed that they have made a decision regarding the leadership issue. Although he didn’t specify a timeline for its implementation, he assured that the matter will be resolved shortly,” Jarkiholi stated.
He continued, “Along with a group of MLAs, I met with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi and requested him to eliminate the confusion surrounding the leadership in Karnataka.”
“We engaged in discussions with Kharge and urged him to expedite the resolution of the leadership confusion in Karnataka,” he further elaborated.
“I, along with multiple MLAs and leaders, met with Kharge to deliberate on state political matters. We reviewed the current political climate and anticipated future developments. We aimed to highlight specific issues to his attention. He has provided suggestions on necessary actions, so let’s remain patient. He is also set to travel to Bengaluru soon,” Jarkiholi stated.
“Kharge assured us that the issues will be addressed promptly. This is not a novel issue; it has experienced delays. Therefore, we urged him to make an effort to resolve the leadership situation. He has assured us that the matter will definitely be attended to,” he remarked.
“This state of affairs cannot persist. Ongoing statements and confusion regarding leadership should not dominate. This is the consensus among party workers and leaders. We are hopeful that if the situation is resolved swiftly, it will benefit the party,” he added.
Alongside Jarkiholi, former minister and MLA K.N. Rajanna—recently removed from his position for allegedly questioning Rahul Gandhi’s comments on the voter fraud issue and regarded as a close ally of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah—also met with Kharge at his residence on Rajaji Marg to discuss state political issues. This marked Rajanna’s initial visit to Delhi post his removal.
Rajanna had openly challenged Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar concerning the leadership issue by advocating for the establishment of additional Deputy Chief Minister roles and asserting his willingness to assume the role of State Congress President, which is currently held by Shivakumar.
Recently, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took to social media, stating that “vested interests” were unable to accept his ascension to Chief Minister for a second term. In a strongly worded statement, he claimed that numerous attacks and criticisms directed at him were partly fueled by caste biases.
“The reality that a man who once herded sheep has become Chief Minister is what has provoked discontent among the elite. There is resentment that someone expected to remain a shepherd has risen to the role of Chief Minister, presenting budget after budget and receiving accolades for it. Some believe that if they can politically eliminate this one individual, their future endeavors will become more manageable,” he concluded.
