Is There Really Nothing Political in Digvijaya Singh's Post? Tharoor Advocates for Congress Strengthening
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) Senior Congress figure Digvijaya Singh stated on Sunday that there was nothing political about his post regarding the BJP-RSS. Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor, the MP from Thiruvananthapuram, voiced strong support for Singh's proposal to enhance the discipline within the venerable party. "I too desire our organization to grow stronger, and it makes sense to maintain discipline within the party," Tharoor remarked to reporters.
When asked for his thoughts on Singh's post on X, Tharoor replied, "Digvijaya Singh is the best person to address this question. He can provide further details."
On the same day, Singh told IANS, "There is no need to react to my post on X since it is not political."
He added, "The BJP's politics has always revolved around divide and rule. This is a family (Nehru-Gandhi) that has lost two members to martyrdom, so divisions among us can never occur, no matter how many attempts are made."
Singh stirred controversy on Saturday with a social media post featuring a 1996 photo, stating that the BJP-RSS allows grassroots workers to ascend to high-ranking positions like chief ministers and prime ministers.
The image shared by Singh depicted Prime Minister Narendra Modi sitting on the floor next to BJP veteran L.K. Advani during an event in Gujarat.
Following the social media uproar, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh clarified that he remains a fervent opponent of the RSS-BJP ideology. He stated that his comments had been misinterpreted.
"I support the organization but oppose the RSS and Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi. I have merely acknowledged the organizational strength of the RSS. I have consistently opposed the policies of the BJP and RSS," he informed the media.
On Sunday, senior BJP leader and MP Ravi Shankar Prasad launched a vigorous attack on the Congress after veteran leader Singh praised the organizational strength of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), claiming it highlighted a belated acknowledgment of the BJP's strong grassroots framework.
Reacting to Singh's comments, Prasad stated, "Digvijaya is realizing after a long time that the BJP organization is very strong, which is commendable."
He went on to criticize the Congress leadership, especially Rahul Gandhi, questioning his significance within his own party.
"What does Rahul Gandhi say when the country does not take him seriously? Even his party does not regard him seriously. Senior leaders like Digvijaya Singh say that Rahul Gandhi doesn’t listen, so what’s the point in talking to him?" Prasad said, referencing Singh's separate post on X concerning Rahul Gandhi.
On December 19, Singh directed his social media post towards Gandhi, advocating for reforms within the party. Proposing a more practical decentralized operation, Singh concluded the post by stating, "The only issue is that it is not easy to 'convince' you!"
