Political Turmoil: Opposition's Strikes at BJP and Owaisi Following AIMIM's Alliance Withdrawal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) The political turmoil surrounding the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) severing its partnership with the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) escalated on Friday, as leaders from various parties exchanged pointed accusations and counterclaims.
In a conversation with IANS, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari asserted that recent developments, including a controversial video and allegations of a Rs 1,000 crore arrangement, have unveiled what he characterized as the “true conduct, character, and identity” of the BJP.
“They garner votes by fragmenting people and regional parties based on caste and religion. Asaduddin Owaisi has consistently aided the BJP,” Tiwari remarked.
Critiquing Owaisi, he added, “Humayun resembles a younger sibling—now let’s observe when the elder brother’s video surfaces. These two are like brothers separated at a fair. Whether intentionally or not, Owaisi's actions often end up benefiting the BJP.”
In alignment with these views, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP, Sanjay Raut, stated that this division would ultimately favor the BJP. “Owaisi employs such tactics for this purpose. He is an educated individual and a barrister, so he should demonstrate restraint,” Raut emphasized, urging unity among the Opposition against the BJP.
“Your adversary is the BJP; the BJP is the nation’s enemy. If you regard yourself as a patriot, you must refrain from any political actions that could inadvertently aid the BJP,” he continued.
Samajwadi Party spokesperson, Udaiveer Singh, launched a wider critique of the BJP-led administration, claiming those opposed to the Constitution and democracy are in authority. He also supported West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, declaring her the only leader capable of defeating the BJP and that she had “rescued Bengal.”
Meanwhile, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh downplayed the controversy surrounding AJUP chief Humayun Kabir, questioning the legitimacy of the allegations. “Who created this video? Who would invest Rs 1,000 crore in Humayun Kabir? He lacks significance, holds no ground in politics, making such propaganda pointless,” Ghosh stated.
In Mumbai, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC criticized AIMIM and the Trinamool Congress for engaging in “appeasement politics.” She asserted that the NDA focuses solely on development and claimed that the situation in West Bengal is characterized by fear.
Reinforcing the BJP’s stance, party spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo dismissed the allegations entirely and suggested potential technological misuse. “It appears evident that Humayun Kabir is closely aligned with Mamata Banerjee and is functioning as her B-team. The viral video—it is challenging to determine, given AI technology, who can manipulate whom,” he remarked.
He further labeled the claims as “entirely unfounded” and asserted that the party would seek legal recourse.
The controversy ignited after AIMIM, under Asaduddin Owaisi's leadership, declared its decision to exit its partnership with AJUP, following the Trinamool Congress's release of a purported video allegedly depicting Kabir in a conversation suggesting ties with political figures. This incited a renewed political clash ahead of forthcoming electoral contests.
While Opposition factions accused Owaisi of indirectly supporting the BJP, the BJP dismissed these assertions as politically motivated.
