Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) In a noteworthy display of political alignment amidst escalating tensions in West Asia, the government organized an all-party meeting on Wednesday to update opposition and allied parties about the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju addressed the media following the session, characterizing the conversations as thorough and constructive, emphasizing the solidarity exhibited by various parties from across the political spectrum.
Rijiju indicated that the government shared extensive information regarding the crisis and responded to inquiries from opposition representatives. "Today, by convening an all-party meeting, the government engaged in an in-depth discussion with opposition and allied parties, offering insights about the West Asia crisis. I express my gratitude to all party leaders; their participation was commendable," he remarked. He noted that party leaders articulated their views on behalf of their parties and raised concerns about the intensifying conflict in the region.
Furthermore, Rijiju pointed out that the meeting provided the government an opportunity to present detailed explanations on critical issues, including the security of energy supplies. "Numerous members were keen to learn about the gas and petroleum supply via the Strait of Hormuz. They were reassured that India has already secured four ships. Consequently, opposition members expressed satisfaction with the government's efforts," he stated.
Reflecting on the overall outcome of the meeting, Rijiju asserted it reinforced the principle of national unity. "I am confident that after receiving comprehensive information and responses from the government in today’s all-party meeting, the opposition will also unite during such crises. The Prime Minister has urged the nation to remain united, and the message of unity must resonate from the Parliament," he added.
Rijiju mentioned that discussions were extensive, encompassing both government responses and opposition recommendations. "I listened attentively to all suggestions put forth by the opposition, and from the government’s side, every inquiry and confusion was clearly addressed. At the conclusion of the meeting, the opposition expressed their gratitude to the government for organizing this all-party meeting, emphasizing that in this challenging scenario, unity is essential," he noted.
The Minister confirmed that representatives from all significant political parties attended the meeting, with the exception of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which chose not to participate. "The TMC was the only party that did not join. I was informed, and when I followed up, they indicated they would not attend due to other commitments. All other major opposition and ruling parties participated in the all-party meeting," he stated.
This all-party consultation takes place in the context of increasing apprehensions regarding the West Asia conflict, with India vigilantly observing developments that could affect energy supplies, trade, and the security of Indian citizens in the region.
