Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) The Government confirmed on Wednesday that additional ships are navigating through the Strait of Hormuz and that there is no reason for alarm.
During an all-party conference addressing the West Asia crisis, the Government reassured opposition members that India is effectively managing geopolitics and has sufficient energy security. They elaborated on how the ongoing conflict could impact the nation and the proactive measures the government is implementing to mitigate the consequences of the Iran war.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the government's comprehensive responses addressed all inquiries raised by the opposition.
The minister noted that many participants expressed interest in the specifics of gas and petroleum supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, and they were pleased to learn that India has already secured four ships.
"All opposition members agreed that during this crisis, they would collectively support any decisions made by the government. I believe we adequately provided the information requested by the opposition today," Rijiju conveyed.
The meeting included Union ministers from the Cabinet Committee on Security, such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Notable attendees from the opposition included Tariq Anwar and Mukul Wasnik from Congress, Dharmendra Yadav from the Samajwadi Party (SP), and Sasmit Patra from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
Rijiju remarked, "The opposition has shown maturity, expressing their support for the government's actions in challenging times... The opposition members were satisfied with the government's efforts."
However, senior Congress leader Tariq Anwar expressed dissatisfaction with the meeting, stating that while clarifications were sought, they were not adequately addressed.
"We have consistently demanded that this issue be debated in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha under Rules 193 and 170. Only then can the public feel reassured. The reality is that a conflict is already unfolding. Pakistan, which is less powerful than us in every aspect, is now acting as a mediator while we remain passive observers," he asserted.
CPI(M) MP John Brittas noted that the government had provided assurances regarding the measures being taken, emphasizing diplomatic discussions with various nations in hopes of a swift end to the war.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh raised concerns about the public panic regarding gas cylinders and fuel shortages, which is causing confusion among citizens.
"The government's position is that we are producing 60% of LPG domestically, and there will be no gas shortages; we also have sufficient oil reserves," he stated.
