New Delhi, March 9 (NationPress) A heated political confrontation ignited between the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc in the Lok Sabha on Monday, as both factions hurled accusations at one another regarding disruptions in the session while demanding a discussion on the intensifying crisis in West Asia.

The dispute emerged as the opposition insisted on an urgent debate concerning the ongoing turmoil in West Asia, whereas the ruling coalition maintained that the assembly should prioritize the no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, which had already been scheduled for discussion.

BJP MP Arun Govil lambasted the Opposition, claiming they were intentionally fostering interruptions instead of contributing to constructive dialogue.

“They propose resolutions but evade discussions on them. They then shift focus to other issues. The Speaker is exhausted from trying to clarify this to them. Their intent is not to engage, but to create chaos,” Govil stated in an interview with IANS.

In a similar vein, BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal argued that the Opposition should adhere to parliamentary protocols before calling for additional discussions.

“A resolution was introduced by them, and they are preventing the Speaker from proceeding. According to the rules, Javed’s resolution, which needs backing from 54 MPs, must be addressed first. Only afterward can a discussion occur,” Jaiswal noted.

Conversely, Congress leaders accused the government of sidestepping debate and thwarting Opposition motions in the House.

Congress MP Kumari Selja asserted that the government has consistently obstructed adjournment motions proposed by the Opposition.

"The government has perpetually been evasive. They’ve never permitted an adjournment motion, regardless of its nature. During parliamentary sessions, when urgent matters arise and adjournment motions are filed, it is the Opposition's right to demand such discussions. This clearly indicates the government's lack of trust in democratic institutions or the parliamentary process,” she remarked.

Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh emphasized that the primary focus of the Opposition should be to deliberate on the ramifications of the West Asia conflict on the broader region.

"Today, our foremost agenda in the House is to earnestly address the West Asian issue and the war involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, as it impacts the entire Middle East. This should be the priority of the House, but the government has refused to entertain it,” he remarked.

Congress MP Manish Tewari also highlighted the necessity for an extensive debate on regional developments, noting that tensions have been escalating for nearly two weeks.

"The resolution intended to be introduced by our Congress colleagues was listed in the Lok Sabha today. However, the situation in West Asia and the Greater Middle East has been escalating for the past 13 days. India has a vast diaspora, and for the world’s largest democracy and its supreme legislative body to neglect discussing this situation would be a disgrace. This is why the Congress and other Opposition parties have been collectively demanding a thorough discussion following the External Affairs Minister’s statement,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the ruling coalition has accused the Opposition of squandering Parliament’s time through continuous disruptions while insisting on an immediate discussion regarding the West Asia crisis.
