Mumbai, Sep 23 (NationPress) Actress Poonam Pandey will no longer participate in the renowned Luv Kush Ramlila taking place at the Red Fort grounds in Delhi this year.
Initially, the actress was set to portray Mandodari, the wife of Raavan. This decision was made by the committee following objections from various societal factions. Committee President Arjun Kumar and General Secretary Subhash Goyal confirmed that Poonam had initially accepted the role after the committee invited her.
However, after her name was publicized, multiple institutions and groups raised concerns. The committee stated that her portrayal of Mandodari could undermine the fundamental objective of the Ramlila, which is to disseminate the teachings of Lord Shri Ram to the community. Consequently, the committee reached a unanimous decision to have a different artist take on the role of Mandodari this year.
The committee also conveyed their best wishes for Poonam Pandey’s future endeavors and expressed hope that she would comprehend and accept this resolution.
On September 22, Poonam shared a video discussing her participation in the Luv Kush Ram Leela this year.
In the video, Poonam expressed, "At Delhi's Red Fort, I am thrilled to have the chance to play the role of Mandodari. I am genuinely excited and very happy.” Emphasizing the significance of the role, she remarked, “Mandodari is an extremely important character, as she is Ravan's wife. I eagerly await portraying this beautiful character.”
Additionally, she mentioned her intention to fast for nine days to maintain mental and physical clarity. “With Navratri commencing tomorrow, I have decided to fast for nine days to ensure my body and mind are cleansed, allowing me to portray this beautiful character effectively. Jai Shri Ram," she revealed. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) previously objected to Poonam Pandey's portrayal of Mandodari due to her controversial public persona.
The organization claimed that her provocative actions, such as the 2011 pledge to strip if India won the ODI World Cup and the 2024 fake death announcement, could offend the sentiments of devotees.
This year’s Ramlila, starting on September 22 at the Red Fort, will feature actors like Arya Babbar as Raavan, Kinshuk Vaidya as Ram, Rini Arya as Sita, and Manoj Tiwari as Parashurama.
