Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh BJP President Pankaj Chaudhary expressed his gratitude towards the Union government for its swift action in curtailing the promotional materials for the contentious film "Ghooskhor Pandat", which has been perceived as offensive to the Brahmin community.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film is set to star Manoj Bajpayee in the leading role.
In a social media statement, Chaudhary remarked, "The title of the film 'Corrupt Pandit' is deeply hurtful to the dignity, respect, and collective feelings of the Brahmin community. We appealed to the Union government to take action regarding our demand for the immediate retraction of this objectionable title."
"By prioritizing social harmony and public sentiment, the Union government responded quickly and mandated the immediate removal of the film's teaser and all promotional materials. We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Union government for addressing our legitimate and fact-driven request," noted the UP BJP President.
He further highlighted that the Brahmin community has historically contributed significantly as carriers of knowledge, scholarship, culture, and ethical values.
"For centuries, their sacrifices, dedication, and intellectual contributions to the preservation of the Vedas, scriptures, and Sanatan traditions have been acknowledged and respected by society," he added.
In response to the backlash regarding the film's title, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed the Hazratganj Police in Lucknow to file a First Information Report (FIR) against it.
According to the Lucknow Police, decisive action was taken following claims that the content seeks to disrupt social harmony and offend religious and caste sentiments.
"The film's name and content have incited considerable anger and outrage among the Brahmin community and various social organizations, which have threatened to organize aggressive protests against the film," stated the police.
"Legal proceedings and investigations are ongoing due to the gravity of the situation. The strictest measures will be enforced against those attempting to harm any community's sentiments or disrupt peace under our zero-tolerance policy," the police added.
Meanwhile, actor Manoj Bajpayee asserted in a recent social media update that "Ghooskhor Pandat" is not intended to represent any specific community.
“I understand the feelings and concerns expressed by individuals, and I take them very seriously. When something you are involved in causes distress to some, it prompts reflection and consideration. For me, this role was about depicting a flawed character and his journey toward self-awareness. It was never meant to be a commentary on any community,” he stated on social media.
