Mumbai, Feb 7 (NationPress) The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has expressed a strong objection to the title of the forthcoming streaming film 'Ghooskhor Pandat'.

On Friday, this organization, which represents 36 affiliated associations including workers, technicians, and artists in the media and entertainment sector, reached out to various OTT platforms regarding this matter.

They stated, “FWICE and all its affiliated associations vehemently oppose the use of this title, as it seemingly targets a specific community and their traditional means of earning a livelihood in a derogatory manner. Such a title risks offending sentiments, inciting misunderstandings, and disrupting social cohesion.”

The film features Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role and is produced by Neeraj Pandey under the banner of Friday Filmworks.

They further asserted, “FWICE is firmly convinced that there should be no division among individuals based on caste, creed, religion, or profession. All professions deserve equal dignity and respect. The film industry, as a significant medium of expression, bears a moral and social responsibility to ensure that its content and titles do not foster hatred, disrespect, or unrest among citizens. We thus urge all producer bodies to avoid registering or continuing film titles that are provocative and capable of inciting unrest among Indians. FWICE unequivocally condemns the registration of this title and urges Neeraj Pandey and Friday Filmworks to withdraw it promptly in the interest of social harmony and unity.”

The organization has warned that non-compliance may result in its affiliated associations and members distancing themselves from any project involving the producer.

The controversy arose after social media users criticized the film's title for its perceived “defamatory” implications. A petition has been lodged with the Delhi High Court contesting the film's title, claiming it is derogatory towards the Brahmin community.

Point of View

I believe that the concerns raised by FWICE about the title 'Ghooskhor Pandat' reflect a growing awareness of social responsibility in the media. It’s crucial for the entertainment industry to prioritize sensitivity and unity over sensationalism, fostering respect across diverse communities.
