Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 6 (NationPress) Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has taken to social media to clarify the backlash surrounding the title of his upcoming drama, 'Ghooskhor Pandat'.
The film, announced by Netflix during the opulent event 'Next on Netflix', stirred controversy as many perceived the title to be derogatory towards the Brahmin community.
In his recent post, Neeraj Pandey elaborated that the term 'Pandat' is merely a colloquial reference to a fictional character and does not signify any specific caste, religion, or community.
His social media statement read, 'Our film is a fictional cop drama, and the term “Pandat” is utilized solely as a colloquial name for a fictional character. The narrative centers on an individual’s actions and decisions and does not make any comments about or represent any caste, religion, or community. As a filmmaker, I approach my work with a profound sense of responsibility - to craft stories that are both thoughtful and respectful.'
Nonetheless, he expressed regret for any distress caused by the title. The producer and co-writer of the film further noted that they have opted to pause all promotional material pertaining to the drama for the time being.
'This film, similar to my previous projects, has been created with genuine intent and aimed solely at entertaining audiences. We acknowledge that the film's title has caused discomfort for some viewers, and we sincerely recognize those sentiments. Given these concerns, we have decided to withdraw all promotional content for now, as we believe the film should be viewed in its entirety and understood in the context of the story we intended to convey, rather than being judged based on incomplete glimpses. I am eager to share the film with audiences soon,' he concluded.
Featuring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role, 'Ghooskhor Pandat' also stars Nushrat Bharuccha, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, and Divya Dutta in significant roles.
