Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 10 (NationPress) In a significant victory for actor Manoj Bajpayee and the producers of the upcoming Netflix series "Ghooskhor Pandat", the Delhi High Court has thrown out a petition that sought to prevent the film's release and streaming.
This ruling follows Netflix's announcement to alter the movie's title.
The legal representative for the streaming service revealed that all promotional content linked to the film has already been taken down from social media platforms.
The petitioner claimed that the film's title and its intended content were defamatory and offensive to certain communities.
A heated debate ignited on social media after users condemned the film's title, labeling it as disrespectful towards the Brahmin community.
Furthermore, several FIRs were lodged, demanding a prohibition on the film's release.
Recently, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) also urged the producer to reconsider the film's title featuring Manoj Bajpayee.
In their correspondence, they stated, "FWICE and all its affiliated associations firmly oppose this title, as it seems to target a specific community and their traditional occupations in a derogatory manner. Such a title risks offending sentiments, inciting misunderstanding, and disturbing social cohesion."
They further asserted, "FWICE is committed to ensuring that society remains undivided by caste, creed, religion, or profession. Every profession warrants respect and dignity. The film industry, being a significant medium of expression, carries a moral obligation to guarantee that its content and titles do not foster hatred or unrest among citizens. We urge all producer organizations to avoid endorsing film titles that are provocative and capable of instigating unrest among Indians."
Earlier, Manoj Bajpayee responded to the backlash regarding his film's title, asserting that the movie does not target any particular community.
He stated, "As an actor, I approach a film through the lens of the character and the narrative I portray. This film is about illustrating a flawed character and his path to self-discovery. It was not intended to be a commentary on any community."
