Mumbai, Feb 10 (NationPress) In a significant victory for actor Manoj Bajpayee and the production team behind the upcoming Netflix series "Ghooskhor Pandat", the Delhi High Court has rejected a petition aimed at prohibiting the release and streaming of the film.

This ruling follows the producers' announcement to the Delhi High Court regarding their decision to alter the film's title.

The attorney for producer Neeraj Pandey mentioned that all promotional content related to the film has been expunged from social media platforms.

The petitioner claimed that the film's title and its intended content were defamatory and offensive to communal sentiments.

A considerable backlash arose as netizens criticized the film's title, labeling it as derogatory towards the Brahmin community.

In addition, multiple FIRs have been lodged, seeking to prevent the film's release.

Recently, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) called on the producer to retract the title of this Manoj Bajpayee film.

In their letter, they expressed, “The FWICE and its associated organizations categorically oppose the use of this title, as it seems to single out and demean a specific community and their traditional livelihoods. Such a title risks provoking misunderstandings and threatening social harmony.”

They further stated, “FWICE firmly believes in the importance of unity among diverse communities based on caste, creed, religion, or profession. Every profession is worthy of respect. The film industry, as a significant medium of expression, bears a moral and social obligation to ensure that its content and titles do not incite hatred or unrest among citizens. We appeal to all producer organizations to abstain from allowing the registration or continuation of titles that could incite divisiveness among Indians.”

Previously, Manoj Bajpayee responded to the title controversy by asserting that the film is not meant to comment on any particular community.

He remarked, “As an actor, I connect with a film through the character and narrative I portray. For me, this project revolves around depicting a flawed individual and his path to self-discovery. It was never intended as a critique of any community.”

Point of View

It is crucial to approach the controversy surrounding 'Ghooskhor Pandat' with a balanced perspective. While the film industry must be sensitive to community sentiments, it is also essential to uphold artistic expression. The decision to alter the title reflects the industry's responsiveness to public opinion, yet it raises questions about censorship and creative freedom. We stand with the notion that films should foster understanding rather than division among communities.
