Priyanka Gandhi Addresses Man-Animal Conflict Challenges
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Wayanad, Jan 28 (NationPress) Congress Lok Sabha representative Priyanka Gandhi participated in a critical meeting convened by the District Collector to tackle the escalating issue of man-animal conflict, which has claimed numerous lives across the state.
Upon her arrival in her constituency, Priyanka met with the relatives of Radha (45), who tragically lost her life to a tiger attack on January 24 while collecting coffee beans at a private estate.
Following her visit, Priyanka stated that she would advocate for this pressing issue with relevant authorities, emphasizing the complexity of the man-animal conflict.
“It is crucial to protect human lives. We must collaborate to ensure safety for all. Additionally, issues like fencing must be prioritized. I will exert my utmost efforts to resolve these challenges,” she asserted.
She stressed the necessity for increased funding to effectively mitigate the man-animal conflict.
“This situation is not straightforward. The Centre, state, and all stakeholders must unite to resolve it. I will raise the issue in Parliament as well. Sufficient funding is essential to tackle this problem,” Priyanka added.
She also visited the site of a public meeting organized by the Congress-led UDF and toured Assembly constituencies where man-animal conflicts have been reported.
“It is unfortunate that five lives have been lost in just 45 days. There are multiple factors contributing to the man-animal conflict. While we acknowledge its complexity, the responsibility of safeguarding human lives rests with the government,” Priyanka remarked.
However, she acknowledged that the government is making efforts to protect lives despite challenging circumstances. “The primary reason for the ongoing neglect of this issue is the lack of prioritization from both the Centre and the state. Furthermore, there is a significant shortage of funds to address this matter,” she explained.
With the upcoming Parliament session in a few days, she pledged to bring this issue to the forefront there as well. “We will strive to ensure that the Centre and state governments recognize your struggles,” Priyanka concluded.
