Jalandhar, Feb 19 (NationPress) As part of the ongoing initiative against drug abuse known as 'Yudh Nashian Virudh', Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav inaugurated a state-of-the-art office for the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in the Jalandhar Range on Thursday.
The advanced facility, which cost Rs 1.60 crore, is intended to improve operational effectiveness and accommodate the expanded capabilities of the force to combat drug trafficking more efficiently.
This office features dedicated spaces for Gazetted Officers, cabins for Investigating Officers and support staff, a Reader’s room, and a modern conference room.
DGP Yadav stated that this facility is outfitted with cutting-edge technologies to target major drug traffickers and dismantle international narcotics networks operating within the state.
The specialised unit includes mobile and computer forensic tools, advanced data analysis systems, forensic data extraction, decryption and analysis capabilities, as well as equipment for technical interception and cryptocurrency tracking.
“Acknowledging the urgent need for technological advancements in drug enforcement, we have not only established the infrastructure but also assigned a dedicated team of technical experts skilled in operating this sophisticated equipment,” stated the DGP.
He added that the ANTF has further enhanced its technical capabilities with the Punjab Artificial Intelligence System (PAIS 2.0), which now supports voice analysis using a database of over 70,000 criminal voices, among other modern features.
Discussing the outcomes of the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign, DGP Yadav revealed that the police have filed 35,133 first information reports (FIRs) and apprehended 50,238 drug traffickers since March 1, seizing 2,229 kg heroin, 667 kg opium, 28 tons of poppy husk, 68 kg charas, 783 kg ganja, 29 kg ICE, 4 kg cocaine, 48.64 lakh intoxicant pills and tablets, and Rs 16.68 crore in drug money from their possession.
DGP Yadav described the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign as a significant success and affirmed that this initiative will continue until the drug menace is eradicated from the state.
He also encouraged the public to report drug-related information confidentially via the Safe Punjab Chatbot 97791-00200.
