Chandigarh, Feb 14 (NationPress) The Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party hosted an NRI conference named “Punjabi Diaspora Meet” on Saturday.
During the inaugural session, the state working President of the party, Ashwani Sharma, extended a warm welcome to the Punjabi diaspora, recognizing their significant role in elevating Punjab and India’s profile on the global stage.
He expressed that Punjabis residing worldwide have consistently nurtured the spirit of their motherland in their hearts. He highlighted that, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s global presence has notably increased, earning enhanced respect for Indians everywhere.
Sharma explained that the aim of the gathering was to hear the concerns and ideas of NRIs regarding Punjab’s advancement. He pointed out challenges like drug issues, law enforcement, and economic downturn, encouraging the diaspora to become proactive in revitalizing Punjab’s prosperity.
He reiterated the BJP’s dedication to promoting unity, peace, security, and inclusive growth in the border state, aiming to restore Punjab’s former glory.
In the concluding session, national General Secretary Tarun Chugh remarked that the BJP government values the “Indian DNA” that connects NRIs to their homeland, regardless of their passport color.
He elaborated that, since May 26, 2014, under Prime Minister Modi, India has developed into one of the fastest-growing major economies, gaining international respect. Chugh stressed the necessity for stable and development-focused leadership in Punjab, urging NRIs to back a “double-engine government” to rejuvenate economic growth, attract industrial investments, and bolster security in the state.
He assured that NRIs would receive identical rights and protections in Punjab as they do in BJP-governed states, ensuring the safety of their investments and fostering a transparent, growth-oriented environment.
Notable BJP figures in attendance included Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar, national parliamentary board member Iqbal Singh Lalpura, and national core committee member and the party’s foreign affairs department head Ashwin Johar.
