Should Women Teachers Be Transferred Back to Their Home Districts?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 13 (NationPress) The topic of relocating women teachers to their native districts was brought up in the Bihar Legislative Council on Friday, during the ninth day of the Budget Session of the state assembly.
While responding to inquiries concerning his department, Education Minister Sunil Kumar was interrupted when former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Rabri Devi requested the Chairman’s approval to present a suggestion related to women teachers.
Mentioning the issue, the RJD leader emphasized that women educators assigned outside their home districts encounter significant challenges.
She highlighted that women frequently bear additional family responsibilities, including childcare and household chores, and that commuting long distances or residing away from home leads to undue strain.
“Women teachers who have relocated from one district to another should be returned to their home districts. Commuting poses difficulties for them. They have obligations towards their children and families. Placing them near their homes would greatly benefit them,” Rabri Devi stated.
In response to the request, Education Minister Sunil Kumar provided a favorable assurance.
“Chairman, we acknowledge the member's suggestion,” he noted, signifying that the proposal would be reviewed by the department.
Previously, on February 3, the matter concerning the teacher transfer policy was also discussed in the Assembly.
At that time, the Education Minister clarified that under the mutual transfer provision, teachers could request transfers by mutual consent, provided that teachers from the same school were willing to swap postings.
Friday marked the ninth day of the Budget Session of the Bihar Legislature, during which the opposition also voiced concerns regarding the increasing crime rate and declining law and order in both Houses.
Earlier in the day, Rabri Devi called for the resignation of Home Minister Samrat Choudhary due to the escalating incidents of crime in Bihar.
She claimed that a Class 12 student was thrown from the fourth floor of a coaching centre in Phulwarisharif, Patna, on Thursday, and that the district police failed to apprehend the perpetrator.
She asserted that the daughters of Bihar are not safe under the “double-engine” NDA government.
