New Delhi, Sep 9 (NationPress) The spokesperson for Tamil Nadu BJP, A.N.S. Prasad, extended his congratulations to C.P. Radhakrishnan on his election as the Vice President of India, stating that this victory symbolizes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a “united Bharat” and marks a significant achievement for southern representation in the national political landscape.
Radhakrishnan triumphed with 452 votes, defeating the opposition candidate, Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy, who garnered 300 votes, during the election held on September 9. Prasad remarked that this win reflects the nation’s dedication to unity and progress under the NDA’s leadership.
Emphasizing Radhakrishnan's roots in Tamil Nadu, Prasad noted that the newly elected Vice President “brings substantial honor to the southern states”, expressing optimism that he would uphold constitutional values as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha while promoting “social development and national integration.”
Recounting Radhakrishnan’s extensive public service, Prasad highlighted that he was born in Tiruppur in 1957 and joined the RSS at the age of 17. He later advanced through the ranks of the BJP, serving as Tamil Nadu State Secretary in 1996 and State President from 2004 to 2007.
His notable 93-day Ratha Yatra traversed 19,000 km, advocating for issues such as river linking, anti-terrorism, the abolition of untouchability, and environmental preservation. He represented Coimbatore in the Lok Sabha in 1998 and 1999, participating in pivotal parliamentary committees.
In 2004, he addressed the United Nations focusing on humanitarian coordination. As Chairman of the Coir Board from 2016 to 2020, Radhakrishnan significantly increased exports to Rs 2,700 crore, benefiting rural communities. His gubernatorial roles in Jharkhand, Telangana, Puducherry, and Maharashtra underscored his commitment to grassroots engagement and healthcare initiatives, including tuberculosis eradication.
Describing him as a “true humanitarian with an impeccable record,” Prasad attributed the victory to PM Modi’s ability to unite NDA allies, including AIADMK, TDP, and YSRCP, around Radhakrishnan's candidacy.
“This success signifies not only Radhakrishnan’s achievement but also serves as a testament to Modi ji’s patriotic spirit and vision for a Viksit Bharat,” Prasad stated.
