Chennai, March 15 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted light rain in certain areas of southern coastal Tamil Nadu this Sunday. In contrast, the majority of the state is anticipated to witness dry weather alongside increasing temperatures.

According to a statement from the weather department, a low-level cyclonic circulation currently positioned over South India's coastal regions is expected to induce light rainfall in a few locations within the southern coastal districts.

Additionally, isolated rainfall is also predicted for March 16 in areas such as the Nilgiris and the southern districts. However, most other districts, including Puducherry and the Karaikal region, are likely to maintain relatively dry conditions.

Meteorologists reported that on Saturday, parts of the state experienced conditions resembling a heatwave, with Vellore recording the highest temperature at 38.1 degrees Celsius. Similar high temperatures were noted in Paramathi, Namakkal district, and Madurai Airport.

The forecast suggests that maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will likely stay above normal, continuing the trend of hot weather in several regions.

In Chennai and nearby areas, the maximum temperature on Sunday is expected to be around 32 degrees Celsius. The sky is predicted to be partly cloudy, with no significant rainfall forecasted for the city.

The weather department also highlighted the presence of a low-pressure system over the Lakshadweep area and the adjacent Comorin Sea, along with another low-pressure influence over the Gulf of Mannar and surrounding regions.

Due to these conditions, isolated light rainfall may occur in Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi districts until Monday (March 16). Following this period, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are projected for isolated locations across southern Tamil Nadu, northern Tamil Nadu, and interior districts on March 17.

The department also mentioned that moderate rainfall might persist in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on March 18. Meanwhile, meteorologists have warned that daytime temperatures across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry could see a slight uptick until March 17, advising residents to take precautions against heat-related issues as the summer heat intensifies.
