Chennai, April 8 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a forecast indicating that rainfall will continue across Tamil Nadu until April 13, primarily due to the development of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

As per B. Amudha, the Deputy Director General of the RMC, this low-pressure area, located in the central regions of the southern Bay of Bengal, is likely to move northwest towards the southwest Bay and subsequently shift north over the west-central Bay of Bengal.

The Weather Department has also warned of potential heavy showers in several southern and delta districts of Tamil Nadu.

Areas including Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai are expected to face heavy rainfall at isolated spots on Tuesday. Chennai and its nearby regions might also experience light rain in certain areas.

From April 9 to 13, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated at scattered locations throughout Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

The skies are predicted to be partly cloudy, with maximum temperatures hovering between 35°C and 36°C and minimum temperatures ranging from 27°C to 28°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin mentioned that maximum temperatures in certain regions of Tamil Nadu could be 2°C to 3°C above normal until April 10.

On Monday, the temperature readings at Chennai's Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam observatories were recorded at 35.5°C and 35.7°C respectively, slightly exceeding the seasonal average.

Vellore noted the highest temperature in the state at 38.6°C, which is approximately 0.7°C above normal.

To date, Tamil Nadu has witnessed 14% more rainfall than the seasonal average during the current northeast monsoon.

The state has recorded 447 mm of rainfall, surpassing the average of 393 mm. Chennai alone has experienced 845 mm of rainfall, marking a 16% increase over the norm, while Coimbatore has seen a 47% rise in rainfall compared to its seasonal average.
