Chennai, Oct 2 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted widespread rainfall across the northern districts of Tamil Nadu for the upcoming three days, cautioning residents about isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms in various parts of the state and Puducherry.
The latest bulletin indicates that the low-pressure system that emerged over the central-west Bay of Bengal on Tuesday morning has developed into a well-defined low-pressure area. This system is anticipated to move north-northwest and impact the southern Odisha-northern Andhra Pradesh coastline on Thursday.
As a result, light to moderate rain is likely to occur in numerous locations throughout Tamil Nadu, especially in the southern regions and Puducherry (including Karaikal) until October 7.
Thunderstorms with lightning may impact some areas during this timeframe. Isolated heavy rain is expected over Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, and Tiruvannamalai districts. On Thursday, heavy downpours are forecasted for parts of Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Cuddalore, and Puducherry.
The weather office predicts that on October 4, very heavy rain may occur in one or two places in Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, and Villupuram in the north, as well as in Madurai, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, and Dindigul in the south.
The RMC has also released an advisory regarding temperature trends. Maximum temperatures are expected to gradually decrease by 2–3 degrees Celsius in several areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next three days due to rain and cloud coverage. However, in certain regions, temperatures might temporarily rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius above normal.
In Chennai, the sky is likely to remain overcast with light to moderate rain or thundershowers anticipated in a few locations over the next 24 hours. The department has advised the public to remain vigilant for sudden heavy rainfall, avoid waterlogged and low-lying areas during downpours, and keep an eye on weather updates.
Farmers and fishermen are urged to plan their activities with caution, as sea conditions may become rough in sections of the Bay of Bengal due to the movement of this weather system.
This forecast arrives as Tamil Nadu transitions into a significant weather phase ahead of the northeast monsoon, with low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal being instrumental in triggering heavy rainfall across the region.
