Chennai, Sep 27 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has released a weather advisory for various regions of Tamil Nadu, indicating the possibility of thunderstorms along with light to moderate rain on Saturday.

In their most recent update, the agency noted that the current atmospheric conditions over the Bay of Bengal have intensified, paving the way for rainfall and strong winds across both coastal and inland districts.

As per the Chennai weather office, a cyclonic circulation that was observed over the central and surrounding northeastern Bay of Bengal on Friday morning has moved westward and developed into a low-pressure area.

"Thanks to the system's gradual intensification, a distinct low-pressure area has now emerged over the northern and adjacent central Bay of Bengal," the agency remarked.

The system is anticipated to drift further west-northwest over the next 24 hours, targeting the coastline of southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh, and is poised to make landfall as a depression on the morning of September 27. This event is expected to impact weather conditions in Tamil Nadu and nearby regions, including Puducherry and Karaikal.

The RMC indicated that one or two areas across the state might experience thunderstorms coupled with light to moderate rainfall.

Additionally, certain regions may encounter wind speeds reaching 30-40 km/h during intense rain spells.

Officials have specifically warned that hilly and western districts, including Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Theni, and Tenkasi, could witness heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

Residents in these zones are urged to be vigilant against potential waterlogging, slippery roads, and decreased visibility during downpours. Fishermen are advised to take precautions due to gusty winds in adjacent sea areas.

The weather office has called on the public to stay updated on further developments, especially as the low-pressure system intensifies while advancing towards the East Coast.

Emergency responders and local authorities have been notified to monitor flood-prone areas and prepare for possible disruptions. This latest warning arises as Tamil Nadu enters a critical phase of the northeast monsoon buildup, with atmospheric activity over the Bay of Bengal expected to unleash sporadic heavy showers and thunderstorms across the state in the days ahead.
