Jaipur, April 9 (NationPress) The Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly, Vasudev Devnani, has revealed the selection of chairpersons and members for a total of 16 Assembly committees, which are comprised of 12 general committees and 4 financial committees. A significant highlight of this announcement is the inclusion of former Chief Ministers Vasundhara Raje and Ashok Gehlot, alongside former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, as members of the Assembly’s Rules Committee.

The Rules Committee will be chaired ex-officio by Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani.

The committee's membership features senior legislators from various parties, including Vasundhara Raje, Ashok Gehlot, Shrichand Kriplani, Chandrabhan Singh Akya, Sachin Pilot, Harish Chaudhary, and Deepti Kiran Maheshwari. Out of the 16 committees, the BJP holds the chairmanship in 11, while the Congress leads 3.

The Speaker also serves as the ex-officio chairman of two other committees. Tikaram Jully, the Leader of Opposition, has been designated as the Chairman of the important Public Accounts Committee. Additionally, Rajendra Pareek from Congress will oversee the Question and Reference Committee, while Narendra Budaniyan has taken on the role of Chairman for the Committee on Welfare of Backward Classes. The committees are set to function until March 31 of the following year.

In a further significant appointment, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has joined the General Purposes Committee as a member. Traditionally, this committee is chaired by the Speaker and includes 16 members, among whom are senior legislators and the Leader of Opposition.

This marks a notable change, as the Chief Minister was not part of this committee in the previous term. The structure of these committees showcases a blend of senior leadership from across party lines, particularly within influential bodies like the Rules Committee and the General Purposes Committee.

However, it is worth mentioning that the representation of women in leadership positions within these committees is limited, with only one of the 16 committees being chaired by a woman. BJP MLA Kalpana Devi has been appointed to lead the committee focused on the welfare of women and children.

The newly established committees are anticipated to play a vital role in legislative monitoring, policy evaluation, and discussions related to governance in the upcoming year.

The Rules Committee is fundamentally tasked with reviewing, amending, and proposing modifications to the rules governing the Assembly's operations.

This newly formed committee is expected to recommend reforms that will facilitate smoother and more effective conduct of Assembly proceedings.

Point of View

Which could enhance legislative effectiveness and governance. The limited representation of women in leadership roles, however, raises questions about inclusivity in political processes.
