Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Wednesday, 29 July transferred ₹250 crore directly to more than 40 lakh students studying in Classes 1 to 8 under a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for free school uniforms, at a state-level function in Khedli Gurjar, Weir tehsil, Bharatpur district. The event, held on the occasion of Guru Purnima, also saw the launch of the Mission Padho Rajasthan reading promotion campaign and the inauguration of educational infrastructure projects worth over ₹691 crore.

Key Announcements at the Guru Purnima Function

Beyond the uniform DBT, Chief Minister Sharma inaugurated and laid foundation stones for educational infrastructure projects valued at over ₹691 crore. He also released the NIPUN Calendar, distributed tablets to visually impaired students, and honoured teachers for their contributions to public education. A Girls' Sainik School at Khedli Gurjar received a bhoomi pujan, which Education Minister Madan Dilawar described as a matter of pride for the state.

Infrastructure Push for Bharatpur and Deeg

The Chief Minister dedicated and laid foundation stones for infrastructure development projects worth over ₹1,186 crore for Bharatpur and Deeg districts, covering roads, electricity, and drainage works. He also announced the inclusion of Bhusawar in the Braj Regional Development Plan, adding to existing coverage that already encompasses the entire Deeg district and villages across the Bayana, Rupbas, Sewar, Nadbai, and Weir tehsils of Bharatpur district.

Welfare and Employment Measures Cited

Sharma highlighted that over 1.78 lakh government appointments had been made in the past two and a half years, with recruitment underway for more than 1.32 lakh additional posts and preparations begun for 70,000 further vacancies. He said recruitment processes had been conducted with complete transparency and that strict action had been taken against the paper leak mafia.

On social security, the government raised the pension to ₹1,450 per month and brought around 1 crore eligible beneficiaries under the Food Security Scheme. Farmers are receiving ₹9,000 annually under the Kisan Samman Nidhi — ₹6,000 from the Centre and an additional ₹3,000 from the state. Daytime electricity supply has been extended to farmers across 26 districts.

Education Vision and Student Interaction

Sharma stated that the government's objective was to foster a culture of reading, strengthen foundational literacy skills, and create a positive academic environment in schools. During the event, he interacted with students across the state via video conferencing. A student who won a gold medal representing Rajasthan in hockey spoke about balancing sports with academics; others shared innovations and career aspirations. 'Our government not only makes announcements but ensures their timely implementation on the ground. This reflects our work culture,' Sharma said.

Education Minister Dilawar noted improving academic performance in government schools and commended teachers for their efforts. With major water security projects — including the Ramjal Setu Link Project, the Yamuna Water Agreement, and the Dewas Project — being expedited alongside greenfield expressways, the Rajasthan government's Guru Purnima event signalled a broad development agenda heading into the second half of its term.
