Jaipur, Jan 15 (NationPress) The Rajasthan High Court has summoned the case diary from law enforcement regarding the disturbances and violence in Samravata village during the Deoli-Uniyara assembly by-election. This order was given by a single bench led by Justice Praveer Bhatnagar while addressing the bail request of Naresh Meena, an independent candidate who faced backlash for slapping the SDM during the elections.
The next court session is set for the following week.
Naresh Meena sought bail in connection with the violent events in Samravata village.
His lawyer, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, contended that Meena was in police custody during the turmoil in Samravata and argued that the accusations were driven by political motives, highlighting that 24 cases have been filed against him, all purportedly linked to political rivalry.
Nevertheless, the court expressed apprehension regarding how Meena, as the primary suspect, could be exempt from instigating the violence.
The uproar started when there was a boycott of voting during the by-election on November 13 in Samravata village. Naresh Meena alleged that officials pressured locals to participate in voting. In retaliation, he reportedly slapped SDM Amit Chaudhary at the polling station and organized a sit-in protest.
Afterward, Meena was taken into custody, but his supporters intervened, resulting in his release.
This led to a violent altercation between the police and demonstrators, featuring lathi charges and stone pelting.
Ultimately, law enforcement apprehended 61 individuals, with 18 receiving bail from the Tonk District Court and 40 getting bail from the Rajasthan High Court.
If the High Court grants bail to Naresh Meena, he will also need to obtain bail in the SDM slapping case for his release from custody.
The upcoming court hearing is scheduled for next week, as reported by officials.
