Jaipur, April 9 (NationPress) In a significant development in the SI Recruitment 2021 scandal, the Special Operations Group (SOG) has taken into custody Hanuman Ram, who is currently the SDM of Fatehgarh in Jaisalmer.
An official stated that this marks the first instance of an SDM being apprehended in relation to this scandal, asserting that Hanuman Ram is accused of participating in the examination as a dummy candidate on behalf of another person, Narpatram.
Previously, the Jodhpur Range Police had detained Narpatram (29) and his spouse Indra (27) in connection with the paper leak incident and transferred them to the SOG for further investigation. The official mentioned that during questioning, both implicated SDM Hanuman Ram as a central conspirator, which led to his arrest.
Hanuman Ram Virda, hailing from Bisaraniyan village in Barmer district, had achieved a 22nd rank in the RAS Exam 2021 during his second attempt, having started his preparation for competitive exams in 2016 at Bhatia Ashram in Suratgarh.
The official indicated that although he did not pass in his first attempt for the RAS, he was later appointed as a Computer Assistant in the Statistics Department in Barmer in 2018.
“Even after securing a job, he continued his preparations for the RAS exam, succeeding in his second attempt,” he noted.
Hanuman Ram’s family consists of his father Kaushala Ram, mother Pempo Devi, two brothers, and six sisters. His father and one of his siblings are involved in agriculture in their village.
His initial appointment as SDM occurred on February 13, 2023 in Chitalwana (Jalore), followed by positions in Bagoda (Sanchore) and Shiv.
Most recently, on February 11, 2025, he was assigned as the SDM of Fatehgarh, Jaisalmer.
The investigation initiated when the SOG apprehended Harkhu Jat, who had successfully cleared the SI exam using the aid of a dummy candidate.
During interrogation, Harkhu admitted to having met Indra, a bright student, at a library. Facing academic challenges, she was convinced to take the exam on Harkhu’s behalf. When Indra’s husband, Narpatram, learned of this, he consented to the arrangement in return for Rs 15 lakh.
Indra took the exam impersonating Harkhu, which enabled her to pass and ultimately secure the position of Platoon Commander. Ironically, while Indra also sat for the exam for herself, she did not succeed. After discovering that Harkhu was apprehended, Narpatram and Indra fled.
However, three days ago, they were located and arrested under Operation Tarpan. Narpatram was captured at a wine shop in Goa, while Indra was detained in Kheme Ka Kuan on Pal Road in Jodhpur.
Indra allegedly attempted to escape upon hearing about her husband’s arrest but was caught before she could flee.
The official stated that with the detention of Hanuman Ram, the investigation has now escalated to higher levels within the state bureaucracy, uncovering the alarming depth of the recruitment fraud.
He mentioned that the SOG is anticipated to persist in its crackdown on others involved in analogous malpractices.
